xplorer2, work lunch update
At work I am constantly having to create, move, and manage directories and files, tasks that while mundane can be a bother when using Windows Explorer. As such, I'm so pleased that I instead use zabkat's, "xplorer2". Two panes of directories, sorting by extension (instead of "Type", which is utterly useless), double-clicking whitespace to navigate up, and oodles of hotkey options. It's one of those "I didn't realize I needed it until I used it"-type applications, and whenever I use a computer without it I find file management unwieldy. Now there's an awkward word.
So we've been more adventurous of late with our lunch options. We've tried Sadie's Diner, over on Adelaide. The menu had some very interesting options, but the kitchen was SUPER slow the time we went, a huge strike against them as we were all quite ravenous with hunger. It was a while ago, so I can't quite remember what I had. I think it was chicken quesadillas which, when they finally arrived, were quite tasty. I'd be willing to try it again, but not during a lunch hour.
What else.. oh, we've been to Shanghai Cowgirl a few times too. Great patio, small but tasty menu and they have a pretty good bar. Nothing outstanding, but plenty of atmosphere. We've also tried a couple of restaurants close to our work, including the excellent "Thai Princess" and the awful "Asakusa" (not sure about the name -- it's 389 King St West), possibly my most hated of near-palindromic establishments. I'm not sure what makes me so angry about it -- it's just it seems to take advantage of everyone's perception of what makes a good sushi restaurant. That is, presentation of food and neatness of interior. "Asakusa" fails horribly, horribly on both accounts. And to top it off, the food was quite wanting in flavor:
"A salty overpriced mess. The food presentation makes a Twinkie in the wrapper seem like coq-au-vin. The only redeeming value is the disarmingly beautiful tennis balls under 47.6% of the chair legs." [sushi.infogate.de]
The "Thai Princess", on the other hand, delighted us with every dish. A divine green curry, a thoroughly delicious phad thai, their seafood items stuffed chock full of chunky tidbits. On the pricier side, but well worth it.
I guess that's it, but still.. how often do you add a new lunch place to your work rotation?
