My favourite YouTube channels

These are not just my favourite but are also the YouTube channels I'd like to promote. I mean, they are rather good and I think you'd enjoy them but they probably haven't come across everyone's feed.

Comedy/Entertainment

Any Austin https://www.youtube.com/@any_austin

Austin imagines life inside various video games using statistics, surveys, and attention to small details. Gentle, relaxing fun.

KVN AUST https://www.youtube.com/@KVNAUST

KVN explores YouTube's "recycle bin" videos -- videos that aren't recommended and have nearly zero views. Many of them are extremely personal and are a reminder of the grungy, dingy humanity of the early internet. The closest thing to time travel at your fingertips.

Memoria https://www.youtube.com/@MemoriaMatters

Mem plays not-so-popular games -- sometimes retro, sometimes horror -- and gives an entertaining, thoughtful commentary. Great atmosphere, good times.

People Make Games https://www.youtube.com/@PeopleMakeGames

Short form documentaries and stories on trends and phenomena within the game industry. A thoughtful peek into the inner workings of how games are made, and the intricate webs within those worlds.

Curiously enough I was introduced to Stavros when he made an appearance on Chapo Trap House (episode 588) and not through his podcast. His call-in show is pretty great for laughing at dirtbag relationship stories.

News and politics

Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan https://www.youtube.com/@Channel5YouTube

Man-on-the-street interviews with the people of America, giving one a taste of all the country has to offer.

Science/Technology/Philosophy

Angela Collier https://www.youtube.com/@acollierastro

Learn physics from a physics person! It's fine.

Hydroxide https://www.youtube.com/@Hydroxide.foodscience

Practical food science, mostly via shorts.

Malcolm PL https://www.youtube.com/@MalcolmPL

Snippets of history lessons given in personal, intimate essays.

Predictive History https://www.youtube.com/@PredictiveHistory

I started watching Professor Jiang about a year ago, just as he started to really explode on YouTube. His theories can be a little edgy but there's no denying his ability to give succinct explanations and thoughtful analysis of world events: current, present and future.
