Hikaru no Go, watching hockey, blog thoughts

I still do not quite recall what I was up to last Friday. I've been told that I was at work late playing Go , but that doesn't explain what I did later that night. I assume my not remembering is for the best. Was I up to no good? Most probably! Speaking of go, I finally finished Hikaru no Go , which indeed ends abruptly, doing its best to wrap all the strings in the alloted 23 minutes. I heard that the reason for this is that the creators felt too much pressure from Korean go fans/players who argued that no-one would believe that Japanese players would beat Korean ones. Sheesh, I mean really now. Those whiny Koreans, always complaining that they're being stomped on in cartoon series. Losers, they are! I watched Game six, Detroit at Pittsburgh, at the St. Louie's off of Spadina, just north of Queens Quay. Why do I patronize such places? I'm all about eating healthy and less meat now, yet there I was, up to my elbows in wings and ribs. True, it was a thrill when Pitts...

flu means anime

Last month I came down with a terrible flu. I wondered where I could've picked up such a punishing version of the virus. Wherever it came from, it hit me hard, forcing me to spend several days in bed, weak and feverish. With my appetite so affected my usual meal regime was thrown out the window, and my trips to the bathroom were more uncomfortable than usual. I had such a bad cough that I ended up going to a walk-in clinic, getting some heavy duty cough medicine and an inhaler to stave off pneumonia. In those moments of wakefulness, between sips of tea and soup, I found myself turning to old anime. Namely, I watched Hikaru No Go and Great Teacher Onizuka again. Oh, how it does bring me back. The voice acting in both of these series is really quite excellent. And the music! Haha oh man it brought a smile to this old brain. Out of curiosity, I started reading the Hikaru No Go manga, and so far it's been a real treat, seeing the source for the anime. I think I can recommend bo...

Saving strawberries, mood, thinking about go

Here's a tip: The next time you buy one of those fruit platters and you end up with leftovers, make sure to consume the strawberries first. With all that humidity in the platter, they mold over within a couple days. Also, if you mistakenly eat one, you can potentially get some sores on the inside of your mouth, including the tongue. Uhm yeah. Ok. Some news -- I'll be in Washington DC for the weekend coming up. I'm looking forward to it, but I will feel bad for my job as we are currently a little short of staff. And it's been pretty busy of late. I actually got quite upset one of the day's last week, and unfortunately some of the stress was vented on one my co-workers, which I still regret. Oh well. I also get that way, irritable and unpleasant, when I haven't eaten. Yeah, I'm one of those people. I need to eat! What else, what else.... Oh yeah, I'm watching "Hikaru No Go", an anime about this 6th grader who talks to the spirit of a great go mas...

Office games, Thanksgiving, flat tire

I've been helping the tide of go wash over our office, mainly by getting people to watch Hikaru no Go and bringing a practice board in. It's funny how fun I find the game now, many, many years after my father attempted to teach me the fundamentals, a lesson that ended in much frustration on my part. It helps that in the office, we are all pretty much at the same level, and actively try to help each other, to improve each other's game. This could very well turn into a hobby. Oh, there's still the office StarCraft matches, though we are down to four players. Still, the teams are reasonably balanced and so the games are not that predictable. I suppose that my always playing as Random helps keep the game lively, and that we are not above trying out new strategies. I used to hate the Terrans, finding them requiring too much micro-management, with too many casting abilities. Turns out I was being too technology heavy with them, that you can get pretty far with just Siege T...

In Rainbows, weather, Alan Partridge

Oh hey just a quickie between days... I've been really getting into that Radiohead "In Rainbows" album. Silly me for doubting that I would come to love it. Other news? No! Well, I suppose the weather has been playing havoc with .. well, it's just been up and down. It's funny every year I seem to forget how viciously cold it can get. I'm still riding my bike, and will do so until the snow or ice starts to make a regular appearance. I've been avoiding taking it to a bike shop, which I feel it desperately needs. Mostly because I was the last one to have done anything to it. A co-worker got me a bunch of I'm Alan Partridge episodes, which I've been slowly digesting and enjoying. However, mentioning them now I am feeling a little guilty for not finishing Battlestar Galactica 2nd series, Hikaru No Go , Legend of the Galactic Heroes , Little Britain 2nd series... uhm, and more, I'm sure. Just a little guilty. Perhaps with the coming holidays I'...

Feeling sick and watching shows

Was feeling ill on Monday, worse yesterday, and ended up staying at home today. A cold! Or something like. Feeling awful, wretched. Riding through the bluster of last night's winds was perhaps not the best of ideas. So today I got out of bed around 2, watched some Life on Mars , some Hikaru No Go , and a bit of Battlestar Galatica , season 3. I must say that Life on Mars is pretty damn excellent -- campy action, deliciously dark humor, a mystery lovingly, delicately revealed. Odd how these song-inspired shows can sometimes be so magical. I do enjoy the prospect of an actual ending, a culmination, a fruit at the end of 16 hours. Short, sweet, British!
